Notes

Origin & Bloom started as a record.

The Substack is a personal memoir of living with a chronic condition. After two decades as a patient, I began writing down what that life actually looks like, and what I was learning along the way. How to prepare for appointments, how to keep good records, how to work with doctors so the time you have together counts.

The work that grew out of it is helping people like me find their footing: functional health coaching and hands-on help navigating care. Along the way, that record became a framework for patients moving forward. The 6 Ps, below.

The 6 Ps

The framework behind Origin & Bloom

Every appointment has a before, a during, and an after. The 6 Ps is the framework I built from 25 years as a chronically ill patient, and it's the spine of OriginBloom.

Before the visit

PREPARE

Build your brief in the doctor's own language. Your questions, your meds, your history, and the one thing you will not leave without being heard on.

The first 60 seconds

PREVENT

The visit's direction is set in the opening moments. A ready, collaborative script lets you set the agenda instead of losing the floor.

During the visit

PRESENT

A one-page brief to hand over, and calm responses ready for the moments that usually derail things. Nothing composed under pressure.

What was said, kept

PRESERVE

Recordings, transcripts, and your own notes, held exactly as they happened. Searchable years later, when the pattern matters.

After the visit

PURSUE

How did it go, what wasn't answered, and what to chase next. The lab, the referral, the second opinion, or a new doctor. It all feeds your next visit.

The calm-day library

PROACTIVE

Rights, communities, and options to explore when you have the capacity to look around. Not tied to any visit.

The 6 Ps is coming to life inside OriginBloom. The blog is where I write about it as it's built.
